Alayna Burrett

Territory Manager: New Zealand

Alayna has a background in bovine genetics and biotechnology with plenty of hands on laboratory experience. She started with Millennium Science New Zealand in 2011, initially only looking after North Island customers, now she looks after the whole country. Alayna gets a real buzz from assisting researchers to understand the latest technology across a range of applications and seeing their research develop and have an international impact. She also has a passion for science communication and education, routinely visiting schools to discuss her career, carry out experiments and get students excited about the range of fantastic career options available in science.

Beata Skiba

Field Applications Scientist

Beata completed her PhD at RMIT University in agricultural molecular biology and genetics, then moved into medical research, investigating inflammation induced insulin resistance at the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne. After 7 years as a post doctoral research fellow, Beata joined Millennium Science in 2009 as a Field Applications Scientist, primarily looking after Affymetrix. Since then, she has branched out into the cell biology portfolio, and enjoys working with scientists from diverse research fields, and providing support in the wide range of cutting edge technologies that Millennium Science represents.

Frazer Coutinho

Territory Manager: New Zealand

Frazer has completed undergraduate and Masters studies in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Otago where he investigated the role of exosomes and microvesicles in tolerizing the immune system against cancers. After which he gained industry experience in Quality Control laboratories at AsureQuality and Danone. Frazer completed his PhD in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland in the drug delivery and drug discovery space. During this time he patented his technology for Age-related Macular Degeneration and has presented his research at many national and international conferences including the Royal Society of New Zealand Te Apārangi where he participated in Falling Walls Lab 2018 and placed second overall in the NZ/Pacific region. He is well experienced in cell culture and life science applications. Frazer is particularly interested in translational research and enjoys discussions on how to better develop and apply medical technologies from bench to bedside. He also enjoys discussions about basketball, dogs and pets in general.

Helle Christophersen

Territory Manager: Western Australia & South Australia

Helle started with Millennium Science in December 2015 as the Territory Manager for South Australia and Western Australia with a base in Perth. Helle is Danish and came to Australia in 2000 to study for her PhD at University of Western Australia. Her background is in plant molecular biology, with major interest in symbiotic relationships between plants and micro-organisms. After completed PhD she moved to Adelaide for a Post Doc position at University of Adelaide. In 2010 Helle left the bench and moved into sales and she has never looked back.

Howard Roberts

Territory Manager: Victoria

Howard was raised and educated in Africa and the UK. Following completion of his Honours degree in Biotechnology at the University of Leeds in 1990, he enjoyed a career in clinical embryology spanning 17 years and four continents. Howard made a career change into scientific sales in 2008, where he has enjoyed the exposure to a wider range of life sciences and has been able to hone his communication skills. Following stints with Quantum Scientific and Beckman Coulter, Howard joined Millennium Science in 2014 as a Victorian Territory manager, and loves the range of cutting edge technologies he gets to talk to scientists about. He also has a sense of humour.

James Miller

Product Manager: Genomics

James has been with Millennium Science for over 8 years in Product Manager and Territory Manager roles where he has had a particular focus on genomics related products. Prior to working at Millennium Science, he worked for over 7 years at Tasmanian Alkaloids (a Johnson & Johnson company) where he managed a poppy biotechnology program aimed at poppy cultivar improvement. Here, he developed and implemented molecular markers for various commercially relevant poppy traits, managed biotechnology projects aimed at using transgenic technologies for poppy improvement and was co-inventor on patents to modify poppy alkaloid profiles. Prior to this, James was awarded a PhD in plant biotechnology at Queensland University of Technology for his work on the development of plant-based vaccines. James completed his undergraduate studies at Monash University and spent time between this and his doctoral studies working with Agriculture Victoria on various projects studying plant pathogens.

Janice Woods

Field Sales Manager

Janice completed her undergraduate degree at Deakin University. She worked in research laboratories at the Baker IDI, the Florey and Monash University where she was working towards her Masters degree. Based on her experience with Applied Biosystems instrumentation, she was head hunted into a sales and product support role with Applied Biosystems. She was actively involved in educating and promoting the gold standard sanger sequencing technologies that Applied Biosystems was well known for.  While with Applied Biosystems she co-developed methods for capillary electrophoresis that resulted in a patent. After 13 years with Applied Biosystems, she moved to Beckman Coulter to support their capillary electrophoresis based genomics instrumentation and general sales. The opportunity to work with the range of technologies represented by Millennium Science proved to be too great, and Janice joined Millennium Science 7 years ago as a Victorian Territory Manager.

Marissa Doherty

Technical Sales Specialist NSW/ACT

Marissa has a Bachelor of Forensic Biology in Biomedical Science from the University of Technology Sydney and was awarded her PhD from the University of Sydney in 2018. She carried out her PhD studies at the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute (ADRI) after which she commenced a post-doctoral position within the same institute. Her work at ADRI was largely molecular biology based and focused mainly on investigating the mechanisms driving microRNA downregulation in malignant pleural mesothelioma and their involvement in drug resistance. After a short life in the research world, Marissa moved into a new position as a Technical Sales Specialist at Millennium Science. She's been in the role since April 2019 and has been enjoying every minute!

Natali Maty

He then worked for many years as Senior Scientist with the Australian Genome Research Facility (AGRF), running a suite of Next-Gen Sequencing machines as well as coordinating genotyping and diversity profiling projects. He joined Millennium Science in 2019 as FAS for genomics portfolios in Australia and New Zealand.

Sharon Guffogg

Product Manager: Cell Biology

Hailing from the US, Sharon's career path has been an unorthodox one. Heading back to university as a mature age student Sharon completed her PhD in microbiology at the University of New England. Teaching was a major passion across a variety of disciplines including microbiology, nutrition, molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology and the health sciences. Moving to Melbourne in 2006 saw Sharon enter the commercial world when she joined Millennium Science as the Victorian/Tasmanian Territory Manager. Heading back to uni in 2008 to embark on an MBA during her spare time resulted in a move into Product Management where a new set of challenges awaited. Currently working with new, cutting edge technologies and bringing those to the Australian/New Zealand market is Sharon's primary focus.
